Sarah Lucas and Tracey Emin - Two Feminist Artists that Confronted and Were Sucessful in Contesting Stereotypical Images of Women

Everyone has a personal and different definition of feminism, whether it is positive or negative. There is not a definition of feminism universally accepted, but all the main types of feminism have the same aim: to free women from socially imposed identities and behaviours. One obvious way of doing so is to represent women in a different light than the usual stereotypes, which is most successfully done in art: challenging and playing with our perceptions, it is often art that enables the questioning of social norms.

Constructing an Essay

Constructing an Essay

As far as the content of the essay is concerned, a few points are worth emphasizing. First, it is important that you adequately plan your essay. Second, you need to develop an argument or a thesis, which you then develop throughout your essay. It is not sufficient to describe what has happened, you need to think critically about the competing positions and arguments made by writers and attempt to develop your own position in response. This does not simply mean giving your opinion, but constructing an argument based upon empirical evidence and the continuing debates with which you become familiar through research.
Make sure that:
• your material is focused and directly addresses the essay question/topic
• the essay includes a clear introduction and conclusion
• your argument is explicitly stated in the introduction, and systematically developed and substantiated throughout the discussion; simply repeating an assertion does not make it an argument
• your paper is not a set of notes but a coherent justification of a position

Exploring the Constitution of California and Proposition 2

Exploring the Constitution of California and Proposition 2

In 1849, the constitution of California was drafted. Virtually all constitutions confer various powers and liberties; the California constitution is no different. Although the framers of this constitution established the basic rules of law, the option of a referendum allowed citizens the chance to propose new state laws through a lengthy initiative process. This process of referendum highlights the main aspects of democracy and is a testament to the responsive nature of California government.

Out of the hundreds of proposed ballot propositions in California, 2008‘s Proposition 2 (known as the Standards for Confining Farm Animals), gained the attention of a large portion of California voters. Extremely dedicated and informed activists created a powerful and diligent campaign. Their message was met with much support and thousands of votes as a result of such effective campaigning.

Full Disclosure Paper

Full Disclosure Paper

In broad terms, “the full disclosure principle calls for financial reporting of any financial facts significant enough to influence the judgment of an informed reader” (Kieso Ph.D., CPA, Weygandt Ph.D., CPA, & Warfifeld Ph.D., 2007, p. 1282). Adoption of the principle in 1933 was a byproduct of the economic crisis triggered in 1929. According to Cox (1985), a system of full disclosure created by the full disclosure principle: Fosters market confidence, Provides financial data users with material information, Improves the quality and timeliness of information disclosed, Contributes to the continuance of orderly markets, Reduces the costs of raising capital, and Inhibits fraud in public trade.

The Adjustments Students Need to Make When Starting a University

The Adjustments Students Need to Make When Starting a University

Students need to make a number of adjustments when starting university. Critically discuss some of these adjustments, in terms of skills brought with them, and new skills that must be developed.

Over the years, the idea of going to university and just learning, and that it was just a few more years of education, has been slowly phased out. Today’s idea of further study at university brings with it a whole different outlook, to that of a decade ago. I wish to discuss the changes and adjustments that students have made while attending university in today’s age.

A. Deep water horizon oil or the BP oil spill that happened in 2010.
-Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico which flowed unabated for three months in 2010, and continues to leak fresh oil. It is the largest accidental marine oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry
-The spill caused extensive damage to marine and wildlife habitats and to the Gulf's fishing and tourism industries
-Was caused by an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon offshore oil platform about 50 miles southeast of the Mississippi River delta on April 20, 2010
-On July 15, 2010, the leak was stopped by capping the gushing wellhead, after it had released about 4.9 million barrels (780,000 m3) of crude oil. An estimated 53,000 barrels per day (8,400 m3/d) escaped from the well just before it was capped.

Medical Malpractice in Morocco

Medical Malpractice in Morocco

Introduction:
According to the Canadian Bar Association “Doctors or health care providers are negligent if they fail to give their patients the standard quality of care that a reasonable doctor or health care provider would give in similar circumstances”. When a person has a disease, automatically, that person thinks about going to a hospital or seeing a professional health provider in hopes of finding help. In fact, people usually think that they can rely on doctors' capacities since those one's are supposed to have years of experience and training that will result in excellent treatment. However, patients end up disappointed by the doctors' treatments and sometimes their health situations become even worse than what they used to be. The wrong treatment given by a medical practitioner because of his negligence is what we call medical malpractice. It could be represented by a failure to diagnose the disease, a misdiagnosis of a disease, not providing the right treatment, or an unreasonable delay in the treatment.

Agentive Metaphors, The Selfish Gene and Puritanism about Teleological Concepts

Agentive Metaphors, The Selfish Gene and Puritanism about Teleological Concepts

Introduction:
Speaking metaphorically is a janus-faced speech act. Its use recommends itself because a good or apt metaphor can be, in one familiar sense, a source of unexpected insight and it is, as Thomas Hobbes pointed out, a lust of the mind to come to understanding-seeking knowledge, a lust he famously compared with ‘the short vehemence of carnal pleasure’ (see Gopnik 1998 for an exploration of the distinctive phenomenology of explanation). Their use is therefore also hard to resist. But in another sense, their use is essentially contestable because potentially misleading when an unintended reader or audience, or even the intended reader or author herself, does not always appreciate the cognitive consequences of speaking metaphorically. The case is worsened when literal and metaphorical use of words and concepts are mixed up in one complex explanatory narrative. A perspective or way of seeing things that offers insight may thus unintentionally result in a massive, persistent and glaring ‘un-insight’. The lust of the mind to come to understand things and to explain has a cognitive price.

What Does it Take to be a Successful Manager?

What Does it Take to be a Successful Manager?

It's Black Friday, one of the busiest days for most businesses. There are people everywhere in the store. The lines are long and people are either gleaming with Christmas joy or impatiently waiting to hurry up and check out to move on to the next store. All these customers don't even stop to realize how much preparation and cleaning up is involved in this one day. There is shipment to be processed, advertisements to be made, signage to go up, and even scheduling of the right people. So many things have to be done for this big day and it is up to one person or sometimes a team of people, these people are called managers. All managers must have various traits to be successful, but the most important three are; leadership skills, problem solving skills, and honesty.

The Fraud Triangle

The Fraud Triangle

Abstract
The fraud triangle was developed in the 1950s. It has been used for many years to help auditors with assessing fraud risk during an audit. However, with corporations changing so much since the 1950s, is the fraud triangle still relevent, or should more elements be included? This paper will explain what the fraud triangle is, why some experts no longer believe the elements are enough, and what elements these experts believe should be added to help auditors assess fraud risk in the modern corporation.

Introduction
Have you ever heard of someone committing a fraud within their company and found yourself wondering what would lead someone to commit fraud? The fraud triangle gives some insight to possible answers to this question. This paper explains the three factors that increase the likelihood of fraud being committed, known as the fraud triangle, and also discusses the new components that experts believe should be incorporated into the assessment of the risk of fraud.

Racial Profiling: Separating America

Racial Profiling: Separating America

In the past 65 years our country has gone through many changes. We have ended segregation between minorities and Whites. We have even elected an African American president. We have supported several African American Secretaries of State. However, our law enforcement still believes it is ok to judge a person by the color of his or her skin. What gives a police officer the right to pull over an African American based on what he is driving? Also having the idea that he is probably doing something illegal? Jesse Jackson calls this “Driving while Black, (DWB)” (Nelson, Paul, Block Jr. & Brown-Dean). Another issue is the preferred drugs of different races are being used against minorities because of harsher penalty for the same offense. Racial profiling should never be used. In this paper I will address the issues of harsher drug charges, “Driving while Black,” and carrying concealed weapons without a license.

The Origin of the Roaring Twenties

The Origin of the Roaring Twenties

The 1920s was the most unique and exciting era the country has ever been through. America just came out of World War I and was basically unscathed, giving way to this exciting new era. Radical changes in American culture and lifestyles defined the time period. The lifestyle was so fast-paced and prominent during this time that it gave the time period the name of the Roaring Twenties. This lifestyle was only created by the economic conditions and advancements in entertainment and art.

Most Americans were doing fairly well financially, leading to a large middle class during the 1920s. Because people were stable financially, they spent more money and bought more things. At the same time, technology was rapidly advancing. Since everyone was able to own new devices, life was made easier. Cars, electricity, and radios also made life more exciting, as new things usually do. With more money, it was no longer a luxury to go to the movies or dancing at the club, usual pastimes of the era. Stable economic conditions made the Roaring Twenties possible.

Choosing a Career: Dental Assisting

Choosing a Career: Dental Assisting

My dream career is being a dental assistant. Dental assistants work with the public, which means that they are always helping people. Without dental assistants then people would have rotting and decaying teeth. The dental assistant has many tasks that they have to do in one day. Some of the tasks that they have to do are hard and some of the tasks are easy. But it all depends on what kind of assistant they are. There are three types of assistant’s secretary, rotating, and clinical all of these assistants do different things.

Performance Enhancing Drugs - The Pros and Cons of Steriods

They were introduced to people as a medicine to help cure hypogonadism. This is a condition which causes insufficient testosterone. These are the famous performance enhancing drugs or as we all are familiar with, steroids. Since early years until this present day, there have been many arguments debating over several issues in our society such as abortion, death penalty, adoption, or even religion. Today, sports and drug use are among the most controversial topics and make for a great headliner. According to David Robinson, opponents argue that people who consume PED’s are “cheaters who gain an unfair advantage” while drug supporters think that “…with pro sport increasing its grasp on society, coupled with the pressures placed on athletes to win at all costs, steroids are here to stay.” So should performance enhancing drugs be allowed in sports?

The Use of iPads in College

The Use of iPads in College

Most students entering college understand today's technologies through everyday use. They are often referred to as the Net Generation and digital natives (Gawelete, Spataro, Komarny 28). Colleges are changing to a more mobile way of teaching, and Apples iPad has changed the way we learn. The use of an iPad increases learning in a college environment with making data more accessible, cutting cost of school supplies, and offers a more interactive way of learning.

In August 2010, Oklahoma State University and Arizona State University conducted a pilot program where they replaced printed handouts and readings with the iPad. The students felt that it had a positive impact on learning, and believe it will be a better replacement for printed course materials. Students at Oklahoma State University were able to purchase two digital text books for the price of a single printed text book (“Schools” 60). The iPad could lead to cost savings for the school with less use of paper, and decrease cost for students with the use of e-texts and digital textbooks, and learn in a more interactive way.

Discussing Saki and his Writing Styles as seen in the Short Stories Filboid Studge, the Story of a Mouse That Helped and The Interlopers

Saki, the author of the short stories Filboid Studge, the Story of a Mouse That Helped and The Interlopers, uses many different ways to portray the same ideas. Saki’s short stories have many similarities in their theme and writing styles. For example, Saki is known for torturing his characters, ending the story with an ironic twist that not many readers expect. He also uses different literary terms to show his different ideas about life. In these two short stories, Saki uses irony, imagery, and different settings and moods for each one. Though they are different, Saki’s intent and purpose is similar.

Overweight and Obesity - A Global Epidemic

Overweight and Obesity - A Global Epidemic

Being overweight and obese is a growing problem globally. According to the World Health Organization, the definition of the term overweight is an individual who has a Body Mass Index (BMI) exceeding 25. Obesity has three classes, but it all begins with a BMI exceeding 30, with the highest class, class III, a BMI of 40 or more (Flegal, 1999). Grundy et al. (1999) estimate that the rate of obese adults in the United States today is approximately 55% and steadily increasing. They also have evidence that trends show that the increasing rates are found in both genders and all racial groups, although the increase is more predominant in non-Hispanic black women, Mexican American women or men, and in individuals with lower education and household incomes (1999).
